High Temperature and Seawater Service

An inlet/outlet and a reverse water-box due to be installed at a UK nuclear plant required corrosion protection.

Corroserve recommended that the water boxes be coated with Corrothane XT to prolong the service life of the water- boxes before installation. Corrothane XT can be used to coat both steel and concrete surfaces, where good chemical and high temperature resistance are required, either for immersed or non-immersed service.

The water boxes were prepared by abrasive blasting to the required cleanliness level before being thoroughly cleaned down to remove all dust and debris.

Corrothane XT was applied by airless spray to reach the required DFT. After a suitable period for curing both thickness and spark testing was completed to identify any holidays and to check the quality of the work completed.

To complete the protective coating two coats of Plasmet ZF were applied to the externals services of the water-boxes and a final top coat of enamel.
